I myself am a fan of the Y coordinate. Just kidding, the flying, loud, crazy kind of plane. What is it? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! post got me thinking about planes again.

I'll just say it before anyone else does: SR-71 Blackbird and its kin.
Now if Tiger would just let me insert a photo

HNNNNNNG! F14 tomcat.

No bumps, no bangs, Concorde. That video makes me tear up.

Just go through the X planes, and they are all there:
I like what they are, even if they aren't full planes...

I forgot the Concord. Honestly, I love this plane. I remember when I was real young, I heard on the radio that the last flight from NY just took off. I watched this video a month or two ago, and lets just say the room got dusty.

I quite like the A-10. It's not pretty, but it's a beast of a plane. Well I think it's a plane built around a gun more than a gun on a plane. SR-71 is my other favorite plane.

I think you have the need

The A-10 is also very cool. Just so purpose-built and great at what it does.

I like the chunkier WW2 planes just as much as the Mustang and Spitfire. Thunderbolt, Corsair, Bearcat, all awesome.

The Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm was, for a very long time, the absolute definition of Batshit. I even capitalized it. They should have made it their motto. Batshit.
This is not a normal plane. It's a subsonic fighter/interceptor/attack/recon/whatever plane. Like most fleet air arm aircraft, it was conceived for one role, found itself doing something else entirely due to introduction delays, and became amazing in the process. The radar operator (observer) sits inside the plane. He gets a flat little canopy to eject out of, which didn't work as well as expected in practice. It had a hell of a wingspan, which was wonderful for landing on small WW2 era carriers.
The British are insane. This is not an insult. They made some of the best aircraft ever, up until the point when they decided to consolidate their aerospace industry (and even for a bit afterwards, arguably). Their biggest asset was that they wanted an aircraft that would do a job or many, and damn the beauty of the results. Because of that, they made some damn beautiful airplanes.

English Electric Lightning. Not really pretty, just fast with twin virtually stacked engines. Tested intercepting U2s at 60,000 ft. Its party piece was to rotate to vertical at the end of the runway and disappear into the clouds.

I'm at Ellsworth and the B-1 is a badass plane to see flying around. They are maybe 300 feet over my house when they're taking off and I love it.

Pretty much all WWII planes but these 2 in particular
The F4U Corsair
The Consolidated PBY Catalina

I've always liked the Beechcraft Starship, designed by Burt Rutan, as well as some of Rutan's other innovative designs...
And of course, the SR71.
I also like the old-school Century Series fighters.
There are a few stillborn aircraft that are cool, too, like XF108 Rapier

Sabre F-86, shit just looks cool. its pretty old, but I really like it. the nose was pretty funky
Along with it the A-10, and the new F-22 Raptor (that thing is a beast of a machine)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this guy yet:

Here's another favorite, for entirely different reasons: it's a jet trainer you can actually buy in the U.S. and fly it privately without a huge amount of hassle or expense (relatively speaking!) They even have a racing class at the Reno Air Races for them.
The Aero L-39 Albatros:

F104, simply because of how beautiful it is.

I don't know why, maybe because it's the first A/C I ever got up close and personal as a kid. I'd dream about it, I'd draw it over and over. It allowed me to focus my teenage years on what I wanted to do in my life. Never got a chance to fly one, but my dad made sure I talked to some pilots who did.

X-3 Stiletto

It's not even close. I love everything about the SR-71. It's absurd in all the right ways. An absolute testament to human engineering and the ability to go to the very limits of what a machine is capable of.
I fucking love the Blackbird.

A very cool aircraft, but never an operational bomber... If we include experimentals my list gets unwieldy.

In all seriousness, the F-15, only the best air superiority fighter that ever flew.
(And yes, that's the F-15E Strike Eagle. I know. Not my fault that they don't have -Ds in service anymore outside of ANG positions...)

How did I miss this one!? I present to you, the Antonov An-225. The largest plane in the world. The sheer size of it is mind boggling. However large you think it is...it's bigger than that...
